Our Vision & Identity

Folks often ask us, "Why the name Sigma 8?"

To us, Sigma represents the sum of many parts coming together with one purpose. The 8 represents the eight people who make up the foundation of Sigma 8 Beef. Each of us brings different strengths, but we all ride for the same brand and share the same vision.

Our mission is simple: raise practical, functional Hereford cattle that work in the pasture, excel on paper with breed-leading EPDs, and still have the look, structure, muscle, and phenotype that today's cattlemen demand. We believe the best cattle are the kind that perform every day, generation after generation.

At Sigma 8 Beef, this isn't just a business—it's a way of life. Long days, early mornings, and a commitment to doing things the right way have shaped our program. Every mating is planned with purpose, every calf is raised with care, and every customer is treated with honesty and respect.

Our goal is to earn your trust one handshake, one load of cattle, and one generation at a time. We're committed to producing Hereford genetics that add value to your operation and to building a reputation that reflects the values of the ranching community. We're proud to be part of the Hereford breed, and we'll continue working every day to earn our place among the cattlemen and women who make this industry so special.

Davy and Anne Lockhart

Davy and Anne Lockhart, along with their son Aubrey, proudly call Somerville, Texas, home. Their family’s passion for agriculture, livestock, and the Hereford breed has grown into more than a hobby—it has become a way of life and the foundation of Sigma 8 Beef.

Growing up showing Hereford cattle, Davy developed a deep appreciation for the breed’s unmatched disposition, maternal strength, structural soundness, and carcass quality. Those early experiences in the show ring inspired a lifelong goal of raising cattle that are not only competitive in the show ring but also productive, profitable, and functional in the pasture.

That passion has been passed on to Aubrey, whose dedication to the Hereford breed has opened countless opportunities. Aubrey serves as a director for the Junior Hereford Organization of Texas, where he works alongside fellow young cattlemen to promote the breed and develop future leaders in the beef industry. He has competed successfully in numerous state and national contests, including judging, public speaking, livestock knowledge, team fitting, and leadership events, continually striving to represent the Hereford breed with excellence.

Whether they’re caring for cattle at home, putting up hay, or traveling to cattle shows across the country the Lockharts cherish the time they spend together. They believe the greatest rewards of the cattle industry are the lifelong friendships, strong work ethic, and family values it instills.
